Worldwide Investor Network (WIN) to Host Mentoring and Demo Event in NYC
Nov 11, 2012
Worldwide Investor Network (WIN) today announced a first-of-its-kind event aimed at bringing premier NYC-based investors together with some of the most promising technology startups from around the world for two days of mentoring, networking, speaker panels and startup pitches designed to identify and accelerate funding for the most promising participating startups. The event – ‘Funding the Best in Global Innovation’ hosted in NYC, Tuesday, November 13 – Wednesday, November 14, 2012 – will showcase ten international technology startups and provide them with intimate access to top venture capitalists, angel investors and family offices, with one-on-one mentorship from some of the most seasoned investors in the NYC venture community.
“Overseas startups are pioneering some of the most innovative technology in the world today, and yet most of these companies remain off the radar of the US investor ecosystem and are therefore challenged to secure the funding and support that they need to take their ventures to the next level,” said Eyal Bino, founder, WIN. “With our ‘Funding the Best in Global Innovation’ event, we’re knocking down the barriers between international entrepreneurs and NYC investors, giving overseas startups a high-profile platform to pitch their solutions to potential investors, while also giving them the opportunity to learn from the best and brightest business and investment leaders in NYC.”
In preparation for this event, WIN scoured the globe in search of the most promising technology startups from diverse geographies spanning Israel, Canada, Denmark, the UK, New Zealand, Singapore and Lithuania, putting candidates through a vigorous qualification process to identify the best of the best startup contenders. Virtually unknown beyond the borders of their respective home countries, these seed-funded and A round-funded startups will take the stage at WIN’s forthcoming NYC event to seek funding that will enable them to accelerate their expansion strategies, while receiving invaluable mentorship designed to streamline their assimilation into the NYC ecosystem.
The event will kick off with a keynote address from venture capitalist, serial entrepreneur, and author, David Teten, Partner with ff Venture Capital and founder and chairman of Harvard Business School Alumni Angels of Greater New York.
“As a passionate supporter of WIN’s mission, I’m honored to join them,” commented Teten. “My published research on deal origination has found that investors who focus on less-popular geographies and source proprietary investments get superior returns. I think that WIN is an important and exciting source of companies that many investors overlook.”
WIN’s ‘Funding the Best in Global Innovation’ event program is tailored to deliver the greatest possible value to attendees, and will feature speakers from leading NYC investment firms including BOLDstart, Rho Capital Partners and RTP Ventures, as well as the opportunity to meet personally with founders of successful global startups based in NYC. Among the program highlights:
- Top-tier venture partners sharing secrets to shortening the path to round A funding
- Successful entrepreneurs from international startups sharing insight into their experiences raising capital in the US and integrating into the NYC startup community
- Exclusive networking opportunities bringing together the entire ecosystem - global innovators, active investors, and strategic partners
- Ten international startups representing the best of global innovation, all of whom will pitch their companies to attending investors during the Finalist Demo Day
Participating startups will receive mentorship from expert investors and executives from firms including Bessemer Venture Partners, BOLDStart Ventures, IA Ventures, DFJ Gotham, Centripetal Capital Partners, High Peaks Venture partners, Agile Equity among others.
“This event is the kickoff for making New York into the ‘Ellis Island for innovation’. With the United Nations here, Mayor Bloomberg’s immigration initiatives, and a number of incubators and accelerators in New York, we need to open our doors to global innovation, finding the brightest minds and problem solvers wherever they are, and provide the ‘launch pad capital’ international startups need to come to the US,” commented J. Skyler Fernandes, Centripetal Capital Partners.
