2012 North Central Washington Community Success Summit

For the fourth year, the Initiative for Rural Innovation & Stewardship (IRIS) is teaming up with the City of Entiat, the Entiat School District, the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest and others to convene a Success Summit that will showcase examples of how innovative entrepreneurs and leaders are building community and lasting success across our region. Residents will share insights and stories about how they are working within their communities to meet basic human needs while conserving natural systems and bridging cultural divides, fundamental to a sustainable future. In addition, the Wenatchee Valley College will be introducing their new certificate of entrepreneurship that has begun taking students in the fall of 2012. Following the presentations, Summit participants will share their best ideas for creating more success in our rural communities in 2013.

Ideation Workshop 2012

Ideation Workshop 2012 will help students develop the necessary skills and expertise in creative thinking, idea generation, collaborative brainstorming, and working in diverse group settings to co-create and refine ideas, such that it creates value for all stakeholders involved. Idea generation and refinement is the first (and necessary) step for successful entrepreneurial ventures and the commercialization process, and skills/expertise in it can ensure that students (and would-be innovators) will experience success in the following phases of entrepreneurship. The workshop starts at 2 p.m. and includes speakers, mini-presentations and breakout sessions.

IGNITE BGI

6 to 9 p.m. The Bainbridge Graduate Institute will feature social entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs focused on creating social and business solutions integrating the triple-bottom-line in this innovative IGNITE. Inspiring, connecting, and engaging nearly a dozen sustainable MBA students and faculty will unleash ideas in the rapid fire presentation style of “Ignite: Enlighten us, but make it quick!” IGNITE BGI is slated for the evening of November 14, 2012 in the newly opened Center for Impact and Innovation, a unique partnership with Social Venture Partners, BGI, and HUB Seattle located in historic Pioneer Square. Ignite is a forum designed for individuals to share interesting knowledge quickly and immediately to a live audience as well as re-broadcast to the world at large online. Ignite presenters share their personal and professional passions, using 20 slides that auto-advance every 15 seconds for a total of just five minutes. An Ignite evening includes networking breaks to further discuss and explore interesting ideas.

New Venture Challenge

East Wenatchee, Washington

5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The New Venture Challenge is a new business plan competition that is open to any resident of Douglas, Chelan and Okanogan Counties as well as the Colville Confederated Tribe interested in starting a business. Existing business owners are eligible as long as the business is less than three years old. Prizes to be awarded during the New Venture Challenge are valued at over $21,000. The competition challenges participants to develop business ideas into legitimate ventures and to execute well-developed business plans. Ideas are not limited to any particular industry but there are three categories of competition: Retail, Professional/Technical, and Student. Participants must select one category to pursue, and will be required to develop and submit a complete business plan for scoring. In celebration of Global Entrepreneurship Week, winners will be announced during an awards presentation on November 13, 2012 at the Wenatchee Valley Mall. The New Venture Challenge is a partnership between the North Central Washington Economic Development District, Wenatchee Valley College, the Wenatchee Valley Mall, and the Wenatchee Downtown Association

Launch Spokane: Entrepreneur and Startup Forum and Networking Event

This is a new event being organized by the LaunchPad Inland Northwest, which helps its members and organizations compete more effectively in creating sustainable business development models. The event will include a panel discussion featuring founders of local startups, investors, serial entrepreneurs and service providers addressing topics such as why it’s critical for entrepreneurs to find mentors, understanding the capital game and building a team. They will also have a keynote speaker.

Entrepreneur University

NWEN is producing Entrepreneur University 2012, Nov. 9. Entrepreneur University is a one-day boot camp for entrepreneurs. The fully loaded schedule features three keynote speakers and three educational tracks, including workshops, panels, and instructional classes. Lunch offers networking opportunities at Table Topics, and the VC Bistro where attendees can speed date with one of the area’s top-ten venture capitalists. The day concludes with EU Idol, where six brave souls deliver 60-second pitches to a panel of media judges and a cocktail-drinking crowd. The 350 attendees of the event included 150 well-rounded entrepreneurs, 100 MBAs in entrepreneurship (receiving discounted tickets from our Herbert B. Jones Foundation scholarship), and 100 speakers, sponsors, and investors from the region’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
