Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal has officially declared November 11th – November 18th to be Louisiana Entrepreneurship Week to coincide with Global Entrepreneurship Week.

It also coincides with Baton Rouge Entrepreneurship Week, celebrating the innovative culture of south Louisiana and providing educational experiences for entrepreneurs. Local event speakers during the week include Netflix founder and CEO Reed Hastings, MyYearbook.com founder Catherine Cook, Solben Company owner and co-founder Daniel Gomez Iniquez, Sweet Revenge founder Marlo Scott, and Morgan Creek Capital venture capitalist Greg Bohlen.  There will also be "boot camps" and a Startup Weekend, as well as a pitch night in front of venture capitalists.

GOVERNOR BOBBY JINDAL DECLARES LOUISIANA ENTREPRENEURSHIP WEEK

BATON ROUGE – Today, Governor Bobby Jindal issued the following proclamation declaring Nov. 11 through Nov. 18 as Louisiana Entrepreneurship Week:

WHEREAS,   Louisiana Entrepreneurship Week offers an array of programs and events focused on inspiring fresh thinking, celebrating our innovation culture, and providing cutting-edge educational experiences for entrepreneurs and innovators of all experience levels; and

WHEREAS,   Entrepreneurship is vital to Louisiana’s growth, prosperity and building a thriving economic future; and

WHEREAS,   Louisiana was ranked 6th in the University of Nebraska-Lincoln 2011 Entrepreneurship Index and was ranked 4th in the nation in 2010 by the Kauffman Institute for entrepreneurial activity; and

WHEREAS,   Encouraging youth to be excited about entrepreneurship, and working to expand the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of Louisiana’s youth and adults to be successful entrepreneurs are crucial to the long-term growth of local communities, the state and the nation; and

WHEREAS,   All net job creation in the United States over the last thirty years has taken place in firms less than five years old; and

WHEREAS,   Louisiana Entrepreneurship Week provides an opportunity to focus on innovative ways in which Louisiana may continue to excel in economic activity and growth and exceed national standards of excellence in entrepreneurial innovation.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Bobby Jindal, Governor of the State of Louisiana, do hereby proclaim November 11 – 18, 2011, as LOUISIANA ENTREPRENEURSHIP WEEK in the State of Louisiana.
